Organizations have to develop leaders capable of managing a community of people with a common mission and a willingness to develop skills necessary to operate at a level of excellence. That is how organizations compete; as centres of excellence. It is good leadership that can bring the organization to its competitive apex. Leaders first recognize their people and take inventory of people skills. Leaders then communicate to the people the organizational missions and insure the people have the ability and willingness to achieve the same. Leaders, along with their employees, create standards of processing or production resulting in a quality product or service.

Leaders have to watch for needed changes, efficiencies and have to train staff accordingly. Leaders are the source of communication with other departments, senior management and are responsible for insuring the continuous productivity of the department. Leaders accomplish all of this through people and staff retention is a critical factor. Leaders must motivate and retain staff to better integrate the functions of the whole organization.
