The objective of promoting ethics is to assist employers and employees to restore a sense of ethical behaviour in the workplace. Ethical issues facing managers have been a longstanding concern and synonymous with managers' professional obligation. Ethical behaviour affects many stakeholders, including employers, employees, clients/customers/patients, all levels of government, organizational consultants, suppliers, shareholders, investors, contractors, employee families, the environment and the surrounding community. Promoting ethical values in the workplace requires responsible commitment and proximity of management in the decision-making process. Promoting ethical values is a source of employee trust in management, rendering the employee more committed to their jobs and more highly motivated to make a positive commitment to the mission and goals of the organization.
Management would immediately benefit from the trust placed in them and the resultant increases in employee productivity. Research has shown that ethical behaviour and sound governance of a publicly traded organization may have a positive affect on profitability resulting in higher stock prices and lesser stock price volatility. Equivalent benefits would be available to all of private industry and governments. Ethics will define many aspects of organizational behaviour.
