Lockout

Course Description
Every year in Canada, workers are injured or killed because equipment, machinery or processes were not properly locked out. Lockout is used during operations such as maintenance, repair, cleaning and replacement of machinery, during which normal control measures may not be working, and new hazards may occur.

The purpose of lockout is to identify and prevent the accidental release of "hazardous energy" that can result in workplace injuries and deaths.

This course provides a basic overview of lockout. This course helps the learner to recognize hazardous situations and to know when lockout is required to control electrical or other energized hazards. The basics of lockout procedures are provided including what, when and how to lockout energy sources.

Case studies and other examples to illustrate the concepts are included in the course as well practical tools such as sample forms and checklists. Quizzes throughout the course and an exam help to measure and encourage learning.
