Performance Management
Workshop Intent
To learn the steps in the performance management process, to write SMART performance and developmental objectives and action plans and to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively evaluate employee performance on a formal basis as well as on an informal basis through the employee coaching and feedback process.
Intended Audience
- New Supervisors and Managers who need to acquire the skills to obtain results
- Experienced Supervisors and Managers who are doing their job well but want to reinforce their skills
- About-to-be-appointed-Supervisors and Managers who are taking their next career step and want to be prepared
- Human Resource professionals at all levels who provide coaching and counselling to line management on how to conduct disciplinary investigations
Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing this workshop, the participant will be able to:
- Explain the three (3) steps in the performance management process
- Describe the three (3) steps in the performance planning process.
- Write SMART objectives and action plans.
- Describe the requirements for generating a performance appraisal.
- Prepare for and conduct an effective performance appraisal discussion.

Training Methods and Features
Instructor-led by a qualified professional facilitator
Interactive and Participative: Group size is limited and participants will engage in discussions, Q&A sessions and other activities designed to promote collaborative learning (see “Skill-building Activities”)
Skill-building Activities: The workshop is structured so that participants have opportunities to engage in hands-on exercises that develop skills – e.g. role-playing, group work/problem solving
Application Tool Kit: Each participant will receive a comprehensive manual that will provide tools and job aids for back on the job. These include templates and checklists.
Resource Tools: Included in the workshop manual is a list of selected references to encourage further learning.
Participant Evaluation
The facilitator will evaluate the learning of participants through:
- Open book quizzes
- Exercise debriefs and activity reviews
Recognition
Participants who have attended the workshop in full will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Workshop/Facilitator Evaluation
Participants will be asked to complete a short evaluation form at the end of the workshop to provide their feedback on the session and the facilitator. This feedback is used to ensure client satisfaction and to continually monitor and improve the quality of the training program.
