Preventing Violence in the Workplace
Overview
This course presents an information session designed to prevent violence in the workplace. The goal of the session is to improve the participant’s knowledge and abilities in the following areas:
- Definition of violence
- Types of Violence
- Warning Signs
- Risk Factors, and
- Strategies for dealing with violent or potentially violent people
Workshop Objectives
- Increase awareness of the scope of workplace violence, define workplace violence and recognize factors that may increase the risk of it occurring
- Learn steps to take if confronted with a potentially violent workplace situation
- Provide effective communication strategies in dealing with a verbally hostile or aggressive individual
Intended Audience
Anyone who wishes to increase his or her awareness of violence prevention in the workplace. This workshop can be combined with the topic of harassment prevention.
Course Format
Participants will learn through lecture, discussion, and case scenarios.
